Prom Night: Youth, Schools, and Popular Culture

★★★☆☆

Review:

A sociology book studying the senior prom dance, one of our most bizarre national rituals. Best’s account is not boring but not gripping either, and marred in my opinion by too much navel-gazing about the formation of student identities and too much respect for the cultural forces that make prom what it is.
