Standard Raymond Chandler novel with dames, tough guys, cynicism and the requisite mystery plot. After reading a few of these, I’m realizing that my favorite parts are when Phillip Marlowe gets time to himself. He’ll go home to his apartment and have a drink, and if the cops aren’t waiting for him there he’ll play through a chess puzzle or something.
